NaNoWriMo*

*National Novel Writers Month

I've been asked to dole out some advice/pointers on the subject and, while I'm no expert, I'll give what I can.

First, I'd say start working on what you're looking to do now, rather than wait until November 1st. That's what bit me last year. I woke up to a status update from someone saying they had x number of words already, and I had totally spaced the entire event. But remember, No writing until 0001 on November 1st.

Don't let the number of words scare you. Just set a goal for each day and do that. it's not terribly difficult once you break it down.

Write what you want! Don't let somebody tell you not to or pressure you into writing something that doesn't interest you.

Here's the part that really screws me up. Forget the spelling and grammar! Those corrections are for December. November is for the writing.

Just keep going. Little breaks are fine, But don't skip a day. And work ahead when you can. You can put a lot of pressure on yourself for this, and missing a day won't help you.

Well, that's what I've got. If I think of anything else, I'll be sure to post it. And as always, Keep your stick on the ice.

  1. I'd also add that expecting to have any kind of finished product is somewhat idiotic. True, some novels have been written in a very short period, but more often than not, that isn't the case, and you find yourself disappointed in the end.
Write what you can. It's worth having written.

  2. I'm trying to work on an idea now but with preparations for camp I haven't gotten an idea formated yet. Hopefully i'll have some time at camp to work it all out, I want to get as much ready beforehand so when the time comes i'll be ready to just write.
