Teh well made schemes of small rodents and large, bipedal mammals.

I said I thought I'd get more posts in once I got into a routine... So far, that routine has yet to materialize. I'm getting closer, but nothing in stone yet.

My day consists of three things. Work, Work out, and sleep. Eat if you can find the time.

No, it's not that drastic. I usually wake up somewhere between 0945 and 1030. I get up, turn the computer on, and (in no particular order) check Facebook, my webcomics, e-mail, etc.; I also try to make sure I read my bible and pray every day. I'm actually a little frustrated that it's not the first thing I do every day, but it's getting there. So, the morning is kinda slow. Work starts at noon, with a break for lunch and dinner. There's also a certain amount of downtime for me to use the internet cafe in the building, which is 8 computers, connected to the world wide web, with very little in the way of blocked sites. most people use it for Facebook or for Skype. Around 2000, work slows way down, because the days shift is leaving. So, I have a little more free time, but I have to stay close to my desk in case the phone rings. at midnight, when I get done, I head back to my CHU to work out and hop back on the internet. I usually(most regularly chat with my family or my friend Nicole on skype. Otherwise, I'll watch a movie or some tv to wind down, or lurk on the forum where I'm playing a play-by-post Hunter game.

With my half day off every week, i attend the church service, use the rec center's wifi(because it's faster) and watch movies or read.

I'm currently reading...
the Bride Collector
Mass Effect: Ascension
The Complete Sherlock Holmes, VOL II
And I was reading Kilkenny by L'Amour until someone stole it out of the latrine at work. Jerks.

I'm listening to...
The Best of Lynyrd Skynyrd
Tonic Sol-Fa(which, if someone could send me a copy of From Boston to Beijing, I'd love you forever, because Zune won't sell it to me.)
Black Betty by Ram Jam
Footloose by Kenny Loggins
Utopia by Within Temptation(Excellent, by the way)
Music from 45 Days(the Demon Hunter documentary)
Speechless by Steven Curtis Chapman

In case anyone is interested in seeing how a Play-by-forum/post RPG goes, here's the link to my current chapter. http://calloftea.000a.biz/forum/index.php?topic=61.0
I'm really enjoying it so far. If you're interested, we may be able to take on another player or two...

So far, homesickness has not been an issue. My cousin Tyler is looking at not even going home, but trying to go straight to Afghanistan at the end of our tour here. He and I are on similar footing, we don't have wives or girlfriends or kids to go home to. All I have is you, dear reader. (I always wanted to refer to my audience like that...)Though I want to go back to school, so I would only be looking at extending for a month or two, staying on with our replacements.

Just so you all know, I am still working on 'A dark and stormy night', it's just being kinda difficult. when you see it, it will probably still need a lot of work. but keep bugging me about it. because I don't write this for myself. I write it for y'all.

Also, one last shameless plug before I go- Read my friend's webcomic! http://www.evernightcomic.com/

We're gonna start something. as my sign off, I'm going to offer a quote. You have until my next post to figure out what it's from, and to tell me in the comments. Deal?

"Who do I belong to? Not Earth, not World, not Evil, not Mortals, not Riches, not Horrors!
Who do I belong to? Unchanging, Unbreaking, Unfailing, Creator, Immortal, Eternal!"

NOT 'A dark and stormy night.'

That's only a working title, by the way. It's too cliched even for me.

Well, it's the start of week 4 here. It's getting hotter now, which is not fun, because Balad is a lot more humid than Kuwait(though not as humid as Iowa...). The DFAC is getting it's air conditioning fixed, so I can eat my food in comfort... haha. For those who haven't heard, I've been moved from ammo to fuel, Class V to Class III. No big deal, the job is basically the same, it's just different stuff you're tracking.

I'm training for an attempt at a half-marathon in September, because where else can you find a free half-marathon? yeah. free. I have set a goal of doing the Chicago half-marathon when I get home. Why not the Dam-to-dam, you say? Why, because it's Chicago, of course! And I've wanted an excuse to see the windy city in a season other than winter for a long time. Haha.

Got my first letter yesterday, unfortunately, it's sender will not be getting a reply, because there was no address on the envelope, only a name. But my offer still stands, send me something, and I'll make sure you get something in return.

It seems like I'm going to wind up getting one half day off every weekend, but I can't say that for sure. Not that the extra 6 hours really gives me that much more time... I've been taking more pictures, and I should have enough to load up an album on Facebook sometime in the next couple weeks or so. I would be taking more, but I'm really not doing anything I can take pictures of. Most of the work we do is classified, and I don't have time for much else, unless you want to see me working out.... ew. If I was working doing something hands-on, you'd see more pictures. *shrugs*

And now, an excerpt from my current short story/character profile, which has a working title
'A dark and stormy night'

It was one of those nights where Chicago seemed to be touched by the Otherworld- the Celtic spirit realm. And while the Windy City has its share of Supernatural influences, none of them are near as friendly as the Fair Folk of British lore. When I began my vigil, the low-hanging clouds caught all the light from the streets, reflecting it back down on the city's inhabitants, filling almost every nook and forgotten alleyway with an ethereal glow. As the night wore on, the weather turned worse. I smelled the lightning and the rain long before it began, and when it did, it came with a vengeance. Lightning tore across the sky like a war between the pantheons and sheets of rain came down a man would be drenched almost before he left his door. It was the kind of night where the energy of nature made you feel truly alive. The kind of night that was perfect for a fight.

Give me your thoughts, critiques, etc. And hopefully the whole thing will be ready to post soon.

Take care, I miss you all.

Life on Mars

So… we’re here. In Balad. Look it up on Wikipedia. The title refers to the two different days I’ve walked out of the office into an orange haze. Like, seriously, ORANGE. But… It’s really not that bad here. If it wasn’t so far away from everything I know and love, I probably wouldn’t mind it at all. The dining facility could use an A/C upgrade, but otherwise, it’s fairly nice. The sandstorms are more like dust storms, and while irritating, they’re not as bad as I had imagined.

I rode my first military aircraft from Kuwait, and it was the smoothest plane ride I’ve ever been on. Go figure. It was a C-17 Starlifter, which is, from my understanding, the largest plane in the US Arsenal. It was pretty impressive. Not as massive as I had imagined, but still pretty sweet. Our office is right under the flight path of the choppers, so all the Blackhawks and Little Birds that fly over go literally right over our heads. It gets kinda noisy. And every other morning, there’s usually three or four controlled detonations that go off. Which is pretty cool, if you ask me. It’s been almost a week since we officially took over from the 13th ESC, and we’re settling in pretty well. Aside from the lack of sleep, of course. I’ve taken over the position of IMO, or Information Management Officer, which is basically an entry level techie who takes care of basic computer issues for their section. While I was studying for the test, I came across this quote. ‘The varied techniques in destroying information are well documented in AR 380-5, but the destruction of choice is to incinerate the medium that holds the data. No other method has been found to be as effective, versatile, and secure, as incineration.’ YEAH. Kill it with FIRE. Haha.

In other news, my friend Mandy is looking to commission some art at very reasonable prices.

Thus, I had my first commission done by her. http://mandy-mo.deviantart.com/gallery/#/d2sy0oh
If you ever wanted a unique piece of art as your very own, now is the time!

Also, I’m looking to get a new wristband for my fossil watch, it’s seen a lot since I started wearing it all the time back in December. And I would be willing to reimburse anyone who happened to go get one and send it to me. I’ve posted my address here, or you can just send it to my house, C/o Mike or Melanie.
Up next-
‘Twas a dark and stormy night…’
